Before you start
Generated geometry is not automatically watertight or printable. This workflow separates visual repair, solid validation, fabrication checks, and slicer verification.

- A mesh-repair tool
- A slicer for the target printer
- Known material and minimum-feature constraints
Step by step
Set real-world dimensions
Choose units and final size first; wall thickness and small features only make sense at a physical scale.
Inspect the surface
Find boundaries, self-intersections, non-manifold edges, internal shells, reversed normals, and disconnected fragments.
Create and verify a closed volume
Repair or reconstruct deliberately, then compare the silhouette and thin features with the original before discarding it.
Check fabrication limits
Measure wall thickness, clearances, unsupported overhangs, contact area, and fragile parts for the chosen process and material.
Validate in the slicer
Review layer preview, supports, islands, estimated material, and warnings on the exact printer profile.
Known trade-offs
- Watertight does not mean printable
- Automatic hole filling can bridge openings that are intentional parts of the object
- Textures and PBR maps usually do not transfer to single-material mesh printing
